25

MARCH 26, 1974

TUESDAY

Mr. Eric Schulz, of 926 Myrtle Road, addressed Council on the problem of dogs running

at large, and wondered why the possibility of placing a dog leash law on the ballot

for the upcoming May 7th election was not on the final agenda. It was explained

that the item had been dropped from the agenda with the approval of the citizen

petitioner that such a referendum be held, and because of the feeling that probably

there would not be enough time to meet the legal qualifications for an advisory

referendum on May 7, but that consideration would likely be given to placing the

question on the ballot at the forthcoming November election. Mr. Schulz explained

that he keeps his own dogs properly controlled but objected to dogs running at large

in the City, whereupon various members of Council agreed that this is a problem and

that existing laws place a considerable burden upon complaining citizens.

On motion of Mr. Hartford, seconded by Mr. Lester, and carried on the affirmative vote

of all members, Council adjourned to an executive session, held in the conference

room adjacent to the Council Chambers, for consideration of personnel salaries and

the terms of a contract.

Following the executive session, Council returned to its chambers, reconvened and

Mayor West explained that Council had discussed the two items as noted, but that no

action was taken on either matter.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 P.M.

.-/1 1 ( - -? ? .
