<br />J' <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 19, 1973 <br /> <br />"",- <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting (see Council minutes of June 12, 1973) of <br /> <br /> <br />the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was held Tuesday, June 19, <br /> <br /> <br />1973, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:00 P.M., to consider <br /> <br />(1) the providing for sewer service for the Figsboro area; (2) possible <br /> <br /> <br />reacquisition of the former City Shop property from Henry County; and (3) a <br /> <br />proposed joint development (by the City and Henry County) of office facilities <br /> <br /> <br />for personnel of the District Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. All members <br /> <br /> <br />were present, viz., Mayor Francis T. West; Harry L. Boaz, Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />W. Donald Hartford; William D. Hobson; and Morton W. Lester. <br /> <br />After calling the meeting to order, Mayor West stated the purpose of this <br /> <br />meeting, as cited hereinabove; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried, Council went into Executive Session to consider these matters and certain <br /> <br />legal aspects thereof. At 7:30 P.M., Council reconvened into a regular session, <br /> <br />again for the purposes hereinbefore stated and to consider same in joint session <br /> <br />with the Henry County Board of Supervisors. All members of said Board were <br /> <br />present (Mr. Melvin W. Brown, Chairman) and, in addition, Henry County Commonwealth's <br /> <br />Attorney Roscoe Reynolds, Henry County Executive Secretary John Longmire, and Henry <br /> <br />County Public Service Authority Executive Secretary Robert Grant. <br /> <br />After extending a cordial welcome to the Supervisors and other Henry County <br /> <br />officials, Mayor West called on the Honorable J. English Ford, Judge of the <br /> <br />District Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, who cited the dire need for <br /> <br />additional office space for his staff and the need to centralize such office <br /> <br />space. Judge Ford, along with Chief Probation Officer Jan Reed, referred to <br /> <br />the legislative changes in the Virginia judicial system, effective July 1, 1973, <br /> <br />whereby--with additional personnel already authorized by the State--it is <br />
