I""<
,

TUESDAY

FEBRUARY 13, 1973

themselves on the quality of service being aforded by Lee Telephone Company.

The City Attorney agreed to assist those living in the City with their actual

presentation of statements before the three-Judge Commission at the upcoming

hearing.

After a discussion of the City Transit Corporation's need of working capital,

-

for efficient operation of the City-owned bus fleet comprising 22 vehicles,

Council voted unanimously to permit direct payments by the City of the monthly

rental in the amount of $300.and the bills for services rendered by Cox Brothers

for maintenance of busses in their shop. It was understood that at the end of

the fiscal year the auditor would make an adjusting entry to reflect the true

cost of the operation and that in all likelihood the adjusting entry would

reflect greater net expense than revenue, thus creating a situation whereby the

City would in effect, be subsidizing the operation. Council directed that there

be prepared a forecast of the operation of the Transit Company, as agents for the

City, so that Council will have a current view as to the financial condition of

the Company.

Council considered a written request submitted by Lester Lumber Company, Inc.,

in which the City was requested to allow water and sewer connections to serve a

proposed development, outside the City limits, on Commonwealth Boulevard near its

intersection with V-C Drive. Council requested the recommendation of the City

Planning Commission as to zoning covenants which would be a part of any contract

under which the City might permit the use of City water and sewer services.

Also, Council referred to the Planning Commission for its recommendation a Lester

Lumber Company request that property located at 108 Fairy Street be rezoned from

R-9 Residential to C-l Commercial, so as to permit a yarn-knitting and crocheting
