~68

MONDAY

APRIL 25, 1977

After some discussion, and upon motion (duly seconded and unanimously

carried), Council concurred with the School Board in these recommended

expenditure items from the 1976-77 school budget. Council also suggested

that the School Board's proposed 1977-78 budget include the estimated cost

pf pupil transportation, an item of expense heretofore charged against the

school budget but for which funds have not heretofore been specifically

requested or appropriated.

Council concurred, too, with the.School Board's intent to revise a long-

standing policy of allowing children of City-and-School system non-resident

employees to attend City schools tuition-free, whereby such policy would be

discontinued as of June 30, 1977, with the exception that any previously-made

commitments, specific or implied, to present employees would be honored.

Other matters presented by the School Board included the following requests

recently made of the School Board by the Martinsvi11e Education Association:

(a) that ten-months contract teachers.be paid in twelve equal
monthly installments; and

(b) that the teachers' professional dues be deducted from
the respective members' salaries in twelve equal monthly
installments.

It was noted that these requests have been discussed with the City's

Finance Director toward the possibility of accomodating such requests and

that consideration and study towards this end is continuing.

Council was adjourned.

,
W. H. Yeaman, Clerk of Council
