<br />96 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 23, 1976 <br /> <br />By letter dated November 22, 1976, Mr. Ebb H. Williams, III, Attorney at <br /> <br />Law and Counsel for Mr. Daniel C. Hairston, requested an amendment to the <br /> <br />City's Zoning Ordinance whereby said client will be permitted to convert his <br /> <br />property, the former Community Hospital, to a home for the aged, said property <br /> <br />being that for which Council issued a Special-Use Permit on October 12, 1976 <br /> <br />to allow Mr. Hairston to convert same to an apartment complex. Council <br /> <br />referred this request to the Planning Commission for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />Council also referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration <br /> <br />and recommendation, a petition filed by Mr. Earle W. Greene (Realtor), <br /> <br />joined in by Mr. Fred R. Compton, requesting the closing and vacating of <br /> <br />Azalia Street, an undeveloped street extending from the north side of <br /> <br />Mulberry Road for a distance of some 175 feet to the south boundary of the City's <br /> <br />"City Park", which requested closing and vacating would enable Mr. Greene <br /> <br />to add an apartment to his apartment complex located on Lot No. 7 as shown <br /> <br />on "Plat of Survey for Earle W. Greene", as prepared under date of July 1, <br /> <br />1971, by J. A. Gustin & Associates. <br /> <br />At the suggestion of Councilman Oakes and in recognition of the outstanding <br /> <br />and successful season recently completed by the Martinsville Senior High <br /> <br />School "Bulldogs" football team, now in the district and regional "play-offs" <br /> <br />for the State Championship, Council went on record as not only congratulating <br /> <br />the team and its coaches but also wishing for the team every success in the <br /> <br />"play-offs", meanwhile directing Council's Clerk to convey by letter, to the <br />
