At the suggestion of Councilman Greene, Council directed its Clerk to write a letter to the Honorable Dan Daniel, member of the United States House of Representatives, expressing Council's appreciation of his interest and successful efforts, and those of his staff, in obtaining an action whereby the eligible citizens of Martinsvi11e now may qualify for home financing assistance through the Farmers Home Administration agency. Mayor Fitz-Hugh announced that, .because of career opportunities, he is accepting a promotional transfer to the Virginia Trust Company, Richmond, Virginia, an affiliate of Virginia National Bank, as of November 1, 1976 and, therefore, as of October 31, 1976, will terminate his position in Martinsvi1le as President of Virginia National Bank/Henry County. Accordingly, Mayor Fitz-Hugh submitted his resignation as Mayor of the City of Martinsvi11e and as member of its City Council, effective on such date as the Council may select but no later than October 31, 1976. Upon motion, duly seconded, Mayor Fitz-Hugh's fellow-Councilmen accepted his resignation with regrets, as of October 31, 1976 and, moreover, accorded him every good wish for the future and acknowledged with appreciation his services as a member of Council since September 1, 1974 and as Mayor since September 1, 1976.
