Jr."'" <br /> <br />,y <br /> <br />MONDAY <br /> <br />MAY 12, 1980 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, continued from its special and duly-called meeting held May 8, 1980, was <br /> <br />held Monday, May 12, 1980, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 9:00 A.M., <br /> <br />for the purpose of continuing its consideration of a personnel matter, viz., the <br /> <br />naming and/or the appointing of a successor to Mr. Thomas B. Noland, who will <br /> <br />retire as City Manager on June 30, 1980. All members of Council were present, as <br /> <br />follows: William D. Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; Barry A. Greene; <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; and Francis T. West. Also present was Councilman-Elect Henry C. Reed. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Councilman Greene, seconded by Councilman West, Council unanimously <br /> <br />appointed Mr. Don R. Edmonds, of Kilgore, Texas, as City Manager, effective July 1, <br /> <br />1980, at the annual salary rate of $39,500.00, with the understanding that <br /> <br />Mr. Edmonds will become employed by the City on Monday, June 16, 1980. The record <br /> <br />notes that Councilman-Elect Henry C. Reed was also in accord with this appointment. <br /> <br />The record also notes that City Manager Noland, of his own volition, took no part in <br /> <br />the interview-selection process but, at Council's request, from time to time assisted <br /> <br />in making reference contacts for the Council. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />W.
