(' 1 <br />' , <br />A ,_l . . <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 24, 1979 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, July 24, 1979, in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., William D. <br /> <br />Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice-Mayor; Barry A. Greene; L. D. Oakes; and <br /> <br />Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held July 10, 1979. <br /> <br />Prior to the beginning of Council's regular order of business, Councilman Oakes, on behalf <br /> <br />of the Martinsville Community Recreation Association, presented a plaque to Mr. Steve Smith <br /> <br />in honor and recognition of his having recently won the Virginia State Amateur Golf <br /> <br />Championship; and, similarly, Mayor Hobson, on behalf of the Council, presented a certificate <br /> <br />of recognition from the Council and the City. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on Prilco <br /> <br />Rentals' petition (filed on May 8, 1979 and approved by the Planning Commission on June 21, <br /> <br />1979) seeking the rezoning of petitioner's property, situated at the southeast corner of <br /> <br />Liberty Street and Clearview Drive, from "C-l Commercial" to "C-3 Commercial". There being <br /> <br />no objections registered by any citizen to the petition, Council unanimously accepted the <br /> <br />Planning Commission's recommendation in this matter and, also, effected said requested <br /> <br />rezoning through the adoption of the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled, that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to reclassify, for zoning purposes, <br />from "C-l Commercial" to "C-3 Commercial" that certain property situated <br />at the southeast corner of the intersection of Liberty Street and Clearview <br />Drive and more specifically identified as Lot Nos. 26 and 26A as owned by <br />Prilco Rentals, Inc. <br />
