54

MONDAY

MAY 8, 1978

Following the presentation by the School Board of the foregoing budget tabulation (as

revised) and (of) its requested budget for 1978-79, members of Council discussed with

School Board members various facets of the proposed 1978-79 School budget, with special

attention to the "Gifted-and-Talented" program and, also, a proposal (with which Council

informally concurred) by the School Board to attract (on a selected basis, and with a

limited guarantee as to tuition fees and educational commitment) students from outside the

City's corporate limits, by reducing the current tuition fees to a nominal sum, the School

Board noting that an increased number of such students can be accommodated without

additional cost to the City and its taxpayers and, at the same time, would enable the City

to qualify for additional State aid, with the tuition income--from a larger number of such

students, though at a reduced fee--expected to equal the total amount now being realized.

Council was adjourned.

(....\:t..~.....'~ l' '- ""'_..__
w.
