<br />.4 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 14, 1982 <br /> <br />somewhat of a token tax or considerably less than the State-mandated ceiling, as proposed. <br /> <br />After some discussion by members of Council, Council continued consideration of the pro- <br /> <br />posed license tax ordinance to its forthcoming January 11th meeting, with the exception of <br /> <br />the alcoholic beverage section which Council unanimously adopted as an ordinance amending <br /> <br />Section 2 of Chapter II of the current license tax ordinance, which amending ordinance <br /> <br />follows: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, in regular <br />meeting assembled, that Section 2 of Chapter II of the License Tax <br />Ordinance (1970) of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be and is <br />hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />2. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. Every person, firm or corporation <br />licensed by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission <br />to manufacture, bottle or sell alcoholic beverages within the <br />City of Martinsville shall pay a license tax for any of the <br />following licenses required by such person, firm or corporation: <br /> <br />(a) For each distiller's license, $1,000.00 per annum; <br />(b) For each winery license, $1,000.00 per annum; <br />(c) For each brewery license, $1,000.00 per annum; <br />(d) For each bottler's license, $500.00 per annum; <br />(e) For each wholesale beer license, $250.00 per annum; <br />(f) For each wholesale wine distributor's license, <br />$50.00 per annum; <br />Cg) For each retail on-premises wine and beer license <br />for a hotel, restaurant or club, and for each retail <br />off-premises wine and beer license, including each <br />specialty shop and convenience grocery store license, <br />$150.00 per annum; <br />(h) For each retail on-premises beer license for a hotel, <br />restaurant or club and for each retail off-premises <br />beer license, $100.00 per annum; <br />(i) For each fruit distiller's license, $1,500.00 per <br />annum. <br /> <br />All licenses issued under this paragraph shall expire on the <br />31st of December of the year in which the same are issued, and all <br />such licenses shall be proratable as to any license issued for less <br />than i full year. Any person licensed hereunder shall, nevertheless, <br />be liable for any additional license tax which may be imposed under <br />other provisions of this ordinance measured on gross receipts, or <br />otherwise. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in full force and effect on and after January 1, 1983. <br />
