<br />,~,,- <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 8, 1982 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />United States Congress which, if enacted, will remove from local governments the <br /> <br />authority to regulate cable TV systems and would adversely affect the terms and con- <br /> <br />ditions any local government might normally include in any franchise granted a cable <br /> <br />TV operator; whereupon, Council directed that a resolution be prepared for Council's <br /> <br />consideration and/or adoption through which Council might register its objections to <br /> <br />said proposed legislation. <br /> <br />At City Manager Edmonds' suggestion, Council called for a public "Open House" to be <br /> <br />scheduled for Sunday, June 27th, for the inspection of the City's Water Filtraion <br /> <br />Plant (which has recently undergone extensive improvements) and (of) the City's new <br /> <br />Animal Shelter nearby. <br /> <br />City Manager Edmonds informed Council that progress is being made toward the resolution <br /> <br />of certain conditions under which Council approved (in special meeting held June 1, <br /> <br />1982) a proposed water agreement or contract between the City and the Henry County <br /> <br />Public Service Authority. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 2.1-344(a)(1) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and <br /> <br /> <br />upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened <br /> <br /> <br />into an Executive Session for the purpose of considering nominees for appointment and/or <br /> <br />reappointment to varoous local boards and commissions, for terms beginning July 1, 1982 <br /> <br />or for any unexpired term, and for the purpose of considering the recommending of <br /> <br />nominees to the Judge of Martinsville City Circuit Court for appointment to the 1983 <br /> <br />Board of Equalization. Upon reconvening into regular session, Council unanimously <br /> <br />appointed Mr. James W. Hare to the Board of Commissioners of the West Piedmont Planning <br /> <br />District Commission, to succeed Mrs. Eliza W. Severt (Councilwoman-Elect) for Mrs. <br />
