<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Sec. 3-10. <br /> <br />JANUARY 12. 198~ <br /> <br />Imooundment GenerallYi <br />Disoosit~on of Revenue Collected. <br /> <br />(a) Any dog found in the city not vacninated, identified, <br />licensed, or regulated, as required in this article, <br />shall be impounded by the animal warden, any police <br />officer, or other authorized official of the city and <br />such dog so confined (i.e., impOunded) shall be kept <br />for a period of seven days to commence on the day <br />immediately following the day the dog is initially <br />confined, unless sooner claimed by the owner. If the <br />rightful owner of any dog confined may be readily <br />identified, the animal ~rden shall make a reasonable <br />effort to notify the owner of the dog's confinement <br />within forty-eight hours next following its con- <br />finement. The dog shall be released to the owner <br />within the first five days of the period upon the <br />owner's proof of ownership, vaccination of the dog, <br />payment of the cost of impoundment at the rate of one <br />dollar per day, with a minimum of three dOllars, and <br />payment of any fine assessed under the provision of <br />this chapter. <br /> <br />(b} A custodian of a dog or an individual who has found a <br />dog may qualify as owner and may claim the dog by ex- <br />pressing his desire in writing to claim the dog at the <br />expiration of the five-day period set out herein after <br />payment of the required license fee, provided, however, <br />that in the event the rightful owner shall claim such <br />dog at any time, the custodian or finder shall re- <br />linquish possession of the dog to the rightful owner. <br /> <br />(c) If at the expiration of the five-day period a dog has <br />not been claimed by its owner, the dog may be delivered <br />to any person who proposes to adopt such dog as a pet <br />and who will pay the required license fee on such dog <br />a.nd the costs of impoundment, provided that no more <br />than two dogs shall be delivered during any thirty- <br />day period to anyone such person. <br /> <br />(d) If any dog has not been claimed or disposed of after <br />the seven-day period, it shall be humanely destroyed <br />or delivered to any local humane society or shelter. <br /> <br />(e) No provision herein shall prohibit the destruction of <br />a critically injured or critically ill animal for <br />humane purposes. <br /> <br />(f) No provision herein shall be construed to prohibit <br />confinement of other companion aml..mals in the city <br />pound or enclosure. <br />
