.
b

TUESDAY

JULY 14, 1981

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by this Council that its best wishes go with
Miss Pulliam, not only as a most able representative of Martinsville
and Henry County throughout her reign as "Miss Virginia, 198111 but
also during the forthcoming once-in-a-lifetime experience as a
contestant in the "Miss America Pageant", with the sincere hope that
she, already our "Miss America", will be chosen everybody's
"Miss America".

Council continued for consideration and/or action at its forthcoming July 28th

meeting a plan proposed by City Manager Edmonds, the purpose of which plan would

be to create an awareness of the City's diminishing water resources, because of

the lack of sufficient rain, and to establish procedures to meet the City's needs

at various levels of water supply availability, as such levels might occur.

...

Council acknowledged receipt of a report on the activities of the joint City-County

Rental Assistance Program for the quarter ended June 30, 1981.

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, and pursuant

to Section 2.1-344(a)(1) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), Council

convened into an Executive Session to discuss personnel matters, including

consideration of filling a vacancy on the Transportation Safety Commission created

by the resignation of Mr. Glenn C. Edwards. Upon reconvening into regular session,

Council took no action toward filling said vacancy but, upon motion (duly seconded

and unanimously carried), directed that the 1981-82 salary of City Manager Edmonds

be increased from the budgeted amount of $43,450.00 to $45,450.00 in an effort to

make sure that Mr. Edmonds' salary is commensurate with his outstanding performance

during his first year as City Manager of the City of Martinsville.

Council was adjourned.

'\

W. ~:~1~~~: 'Clerk of Council
. )

~,-,~"_..,-_._---'-----'-.
