<br />';.1 <br />u :t <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 26, 1981 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor Barry A. Greene presiding, was held Tuesday, May 26, <br /> <br />1981, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Barry A. Greene, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; Henry C. Reed; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held May 12, 1981; and City Manager Edmonds introduced to members of <br /> <br />Council Mr. Richard D. Fitts, who will become employed by the City on June 1, 1981 <br /> <br />and will succeed W. H. Yeaman, who will retire on June 30, 1981, as Finance Director <br /> <br />on July 1, 1981. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />resolution by which the City will become a participant-member of the New River <br /> <br />Criminal Justice Training Academy and Vice-Mayor Cole and Police Chief Terry L. Roop <br /> <br />will represent the City on the Academy's Board of Directors, effective July 1, 1981: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-sixth day of May, 1981, <br />that <br /> <br />(1) The City of Martinsville desires to become a member of <br />the New River Criminal Justice Training Academy for the <br />purpose of training the City's law enforcement and <br />correctional officers, effective July 1, 1981; and <br /> <br />(2) William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor and Councilman for the <br />City of Martinsville, and Terry L. Roop, the City's <br />Chief of Police, are hereby appointed to serve as the <br />City of Martinsville's representatives on the Board of <br />Directors of the New River Criminal Justice Training <br />Academy. <br /> <br />Also upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized the <br /> <br />execution of an agreement by City Manager Edmonds with the Office of Emergency <br /> <br />and Energy Services of the Commonwealth of Virginia in support of the Virginia <br />
