<br />19 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 11, 1983 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, October 11, 1983, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members were present, viz., <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Henry C. Reed; Eliza H. Severt; <br /> <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Following the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council-- <br /> <br />through Mayor Cole and City Manager Edmonds--presented a "Citizen's" award to Mrs. Barbara <br /> <br />o. Holland in recognition of her services to the community as a member of the Board of <br /> <br />Directors of The Piedmont Seniors of Virginia, Inc., which she also served as Treasurer, <br /> <br />Mrs. Holland having recently resigned therefrom; and, also, recognized Mrs. Martha King <br /> <br />and presented to her a token of appreciation for her services to the City during her <br /> <br />employment, from which she retired July 31, 1983, after slightly more than fifteen years <br /> <br />on the custodial staff for City Hall (i.e., Municipal Building). <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as recorded--the <br /> <br />minutes of its regular meeting held September 27, 1983. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on certain proposed <br /> <br />amendments to the City's 1983-84 budget. There being no response from the public thereto <br /> <br />and thereon, Mayor Cole declared the public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly <br /> <br />seconded and unanimously carried, Council amended said budget in accordance with the pro- <br /> <br />posed amendments and appropriated monies from the surplus accounts of the respective <br /> <br />funds involved, as follows and for the following purposes: <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />GENERAL FUND <br />Office of City Treasurer <br />Acct. 01 121300 5401010 Office Supplies <br /> <br />$ 1,037.00 <br />
