<br />'"J f\ (- <br />tJJ) <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 26, 1984 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 26, 1984, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members--with the exception of <br /> <br />Councilmember Eliza H. Severt, who was away from the city--being present, viz., <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Henry C. Reed; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation and following Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, <br /> <br />Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held June 12, 1984. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on certain pro- <br /> <br />posed amendments (recommended by the Planning Commission) to Section X (Signs) of the <br /> <br />City's Zoning Ordinance, pertaining to regulation of temporary signs and displays. <br /> <br />There being no objections registered by any persons to these proposed amendments, Mayor <br /> <br />Cole declared the public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded, Council unan- <br /> <br />imously approved said proposed amendments and adopted the following ordinance effecting <br /> <br />same: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session, that Section X (Signs) of the Zoning Ordinance of the <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended, as follows: <br /> <br />1. Under sub-section C (General Regulations), sub-paragraph <br />2, there shall be added the following provision: <br /> <br />(h) A sign not exceeding eight (8) square feet in <br />area advertising temporary events, such as <br />auctions, flea markets, etc. Such sign shall be <br />located on the premises in which the event will <br />occur, shall not be erected any sooner than ten <br />(10) days prior to the event, and shall be re- <br />moved upon completion of the event. <br /> <br />2. Under sub-section F (Temporary Displays), the second <br />sentence therein shall read: <br /> <br />This permit may be issued for a period not <br />exceeding thirty (30) days and may be <br />issued only once every ninety (90) days. <br />
