<br />-'~ 1)1 <br />_0,,_ W' <br /> <br />TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 1985 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Attorney) to defend the City in an action now pending before (or in) the Circuit Court <br /> <br />of the City of Martinsville entitled, Tultex Corporation, et al v. City of Martinsville; <br /> <br />(2) authorized City Manager Brown to execute on behalf of the City a deed transferring a <br /> <br />portion of Tract 5 (i.e., 2.5055 acres of land) in the City's Industrial Park to United <br /> <br />Virginia Bank, Trustee U/A Frith Family Trust, for the sum of $21,196.75; and (3) <br /> <br />appointed Mr. Newton M. Ogden to the City's Industrial Development Authority (Board) for <br /> <br />a term ending September 26, 1989. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council concurred with Councilman Oakes' suggestion that a resolution be prepared for <br /> <br />Council's consideration and/or action at Council's next regular meeting in recognition <br /> <br />of a special committee of area citizens whose efforts culminated in the construction of <br /> <br />a memorial (on the premises of the Henry County Courthouse in downtown Martinsville) to <br /> <br />those area citizens who lost their lives while serving in various wars in which the <br /> <br />United States has been involved, which memorial was recently dedicated. <br /> <br />Through Mayor Cole, Council was apprised of the successful and cooperative efforts of <br /> <br />the following individuals and/or officials toward providing food and clothing to the <br /> <br />victims of the recent Roanoke Valley flood, to which individuals and/or officials <br /> <br />Council asked that its recognition and appreciation be expressed: <br /> <br />Mrs. Veronica M. Venable, Deputy Administrator, Henry County; <br />Mrs. Pat S. Conrad, Director, City'sSocial Services Department; <br />Captain Kenneth R. Batts, of the local Salvation Army; <br />Mr. Shelton H.
