1\.~8 TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1985 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, Septem- ber 10, 1985, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice- Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; L. D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. Following the invocation by Councilman Groden and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, with a special welcome being extended to Boy Scouts present from Troop 61 (and their Troop Leader, Mr. "Buck" Kester), Council unanimously approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held August 27, 1985. Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on Ms. Pauline Lawson's recently-filed petition seeking the rezoning from "R-6 Resi- dential" to "P-2 Professional" that certain property indentified as Lot No. 10 and located at 311 Brown Street. Representing petitioner was Mr. Philip G. Gard- ner, Attorney at Law. There being no objections registered to this petition, Mayor Cole declared this public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's recommendation that petition be granted and, in so dOing, unanimously adopted the following ordi- nance effecting said "P-2 Professional" zoning and amending the City's Zoning Map accordingly: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this tenth day of September, 1985, that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to the extent that Lot No. 10, situated at 311 Brown Street, is hereby rezoned from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional". BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force on and after September 11, 1985.
