<br />'f :1 <br /> <br />JANUARY 22, 1985 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />and callings set forth on Schedule 7 attached hereto <br />and incorporated by reference herein, and a rate of <br />forty-two cents per one hundred dollars of gross <br />receipts for those businesses, trades, professions, <br />occupations and callings set forth on Schedule 8 <br />attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein. <br /> <br />B. Article Ill, Paragraph 3 shall be amended to read: <br /> <br />3. TAXICABS. All taxicab companies shall pay one percent <br />quarterly of gross receipts on the preceding period of three <br />months per company or the sum of $25.00, whichever is greater. <br />Each company shall keep an accurate account of all such gross <br />receipts and its books of account shall be open to inspection <br />by an authorized representative of the City. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />Upon being apprised by Acting City Manager Brown of the need to acquire (by purchase) of <br /> <br />approximately three-fourths of an acre of land (adjoining the City's water pollution con- <br /> <br />trol plant complex and owned by Mr. Worth H. Carter, Jr.) to accommodate proposed improve- <br /> <br />ments to this treatment plant, Council unanimously authorized the purchase of this tract <br /> <br />for the sum of $2,139.20, being at the rate of $2,800.00 per acre for or at which rate the <br /> <br />City purchased five acres of land in 1974 for the then-expansion of the sewage treatment <br /> <br />plant. <br /> <br />On behalf of a group of citizens identified as the Souths ide Concerned Citizens who are <br /> <br />opposing the lifting by the Virginia General Assembly of a moratorium on uranium mining <br /> <br />and milling in Virginia as well as urging the indefinite continuation of such a moratorium, <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Dr. W. D. Prince, Ill, as spokesman, accompanied by Dr. Eugene C. Madonia and Dr. B. T. <br /> <br />Westerfield (all of Martinsville), along with other citizens, presented a brief summary <br /> <br />of this group's concerns, as more specifically set forth in various documents made avail- <br /> <br />able to members of Council, with the request that Council adopt a resolution expressing <br /> <br />its support and endorsement of an indefinite moratorium being declared by the General <br /> <br />Assembly (1985) on the mining and milling of uranium in Virginia. Speaking, too, in <br /> <br />support of this group's request and in opposition to any mining and milling of uranium in <br /> <br />Virginia were Mrs. Dorothy Montgomery (of 926 Mulberry Road, Martinsville) and Dr. Edward <br /> <br />J. Jesneck, of Bassett, Virginia. Appearing before Council in support of such mining and <br /> <br />milling was Mr. C. Dudley Blancke, a mining engineer with The Marline Corporation, an <br />
