Council referred this matter, along with <br /> <br />Councilman Groden's comments regarding drug testing (of employees), to City <br /> <br />Manager Brown for study and report. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes, commenting along with Vice-Mayor Williams on the recent Virginia <br /> <br />Municipal League Conference (held in Norfolk, Virginia, September 21st-23rd), <br /> <br />pointed to some of the more important issues considered by officials and <br /> <br />representatives in attendance, viz., <br /> <br />(1) transportation needs and financing; <br />(2) liability insurance problems; and <br />(3) priority (emphasis) on education in Virginia. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes also indicated that he may attend the forthcoming meeting of the <br /> <br />National League of Cities. <br /> <br />Pursuant to the provisions of subsections (a)(l) and (a)(6) of Section 2.1-344 <br /> <br />of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded <br /> <br />and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive <br /> <br />Session for the purposes of (1) (considering nominees for appointment to <br /> <br />various boards and commissions and (2) consultation with City Attorney Worthy <br /> <br />on a legal matter.
