839

TUESDAY, JULY 22, 1986

.-

Upon motion,

duly

seconded and unanimously carried, Council appointed

Councilman McClain to membership on the Board of the West Piedmont Planning

District Commission for the unexpired term (ending June 30, 1988) of Councilman

Cole, who resigned therefrom as of July 1, 1986.

Vice-Mayor Williams, expressing his real concern for the homeless people of

Martinsville, urged that more effort be directed toward providing better

housing for local citizens and toward eliminating sub-standard housing within

the City, a goal he has previously advocated.

Council concurred with Mayor Oakes's request that City Manager Brown arrange a

joint meeting of Council and the City School Hoard, during the forthcoming

month of October, to share concerns and to "discuss programs".

Pursuant to the provisions of subsection (a)(2) of Section 2.1-344 of the CODE

OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and

unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive

Session for the purpose of considering the possible acquisition of certain real

-

property for public use and/or the disposing of publicly-held property. Upon

reconvening into regular session, Council took no action on these matters.

Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned.

"~~?-',,-----"-<- -~ .--.1). ..~
C_.~ k f C 1
W.
