<br />TUESDAY, JULY 22, 1986 <br /> <br />"- <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the CIty of Martinsvil1e, <br /> <br /> <br />VirginIa, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, July 22, 1986, in <br /> <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., the following members <br /> <br />beIng present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William <br /> <br />C. Cole, Jr.; and Allan McClain. CouncIlman Alfred T. Groden, the only other <br /> <br />member, was absent because of illness. <br /> <br />-. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors <br /> <br />present, Council unanimously approved the minutes of its regular meeting held <br /> <br />July 8, 1986, as recorded. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Brown, Council unanimously agreed to commit <br /> <br />the City for--and, sUbsequently, to appropriate and/or reappropriate--the sum <br /> <br /> <br />of $5,583.00 as matching funds towards an Urban Mass Transit Authority (UTMA) <br /> <br /> <br />grant (anticipated in the 1985-86 City Budget but being realized In the current <br /> <br /> <br />1986-87 City Budget) for the purchase of two vans for and by the Piedmont <br /> <br />Seniors of Virginia, subject to the assigning of one of these vans to the City <br /> <br />of Martinsville and its senior citizens organization to replace a van or bus <br /> <br />badly in need of being replaced. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded <br /> <br />resolution which approved of <br /> <br />Development Authority of the <br /> <br />and unanimously carried, Council adopted a <br /> <br />the proposed issuance by the City's Industrial <br /> <br />Authority's revenue bonds in the amount of <br /> <br />$4,500,000.00 to assist Hooker Furniture Corporation in the financing of a <br /> <br />project described in said resolution, adoption of which was recommended by the <br /> <br />Authority, it being understood that said amount must come from the "State <br /> <br />Reserve" inasmuch as the City's current allocation has already been awarded for <br /> <br />a3~ <br />
