:68

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1987

I would like to ask that City Council support the thoughts expressed in
this memo and that the Mayor be authorized to enlist the support of the
Chairman of the Board of Supervisors and the Chairman of the P.S.A. for the
purpose of forming a "task force" to tackle the problem of red water--the
"task force" to consist of business, government, industry and environmental
leaders of Martinsville and Henry County.

Mayor Oakes reported that he, Vice-Mayor Williams, and City Manager Brown attended

the VML-sponsored Legislative Day in Richmond, Virginia, on February 5, 1987.

In response to Councilman McClain's request for an "update" on the status of

improvements planned for the intersection of Fayette Street with Memorial Boulevard

and/or West Church Street, City Manager Brown indicated that current information

theron will be presented to Council at its forthcoming February 24th meeting.

In accordance with the requirements of applicable sections of Section 2.1-344 of the

CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and

unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive Session

to discuss two contractual matters. At the conclusion of this session, Council

reconvened into regular session but took no action on these matters.

Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned.

)~v..-( ,., --,,-~..n:;_.rV
.
