<br />TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 1987 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, January 27, 1987, in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members were present, viz., L. D. <br /> <br />Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; <br /> <br />and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors present, <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved of the minutes--as recorded--of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held January 13, 1987. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on the <br /> <br />Planning Commission's recommendations (from its meeting held December 18, 1986) <br /> <br />regarding the proposed rezoning of certain properties adjoining portions of the <br /> <br />recently-constructed Mulberry Road Extension project, now named Market Street. <br /> <br />There being no comments or objections registered by any citizen on the proposed <br /> <br />rezoning, Mayor Oakes declared the public hearing closed; whereupon, upon motion, <br /> <br />duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's <br /> <br />recommendations, as submitted, and effected the recommended rezoning by unanimously <br /> <br />adopting the following ordinance amending the Zoning Map of the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-seventh day of January, 1987, <br />that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is <br />hereby--amended to the extent that the following areas along Market <br />Street are herewith rezoned to C-1A Commercial: <br /> <br />(1) The areas north of Market Street, between Ellsworth Street <br />and West Church Street, heretofore zones R-P Residential- <br />Professional; and <br /> <br />(2) The areas south of Market Street, adjoining College Street <br />south to Railroad Street, heretofore zoned R-6 Residential. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, <br />this ordinance shall be in force on and after January 28, 1987. <br /> <br />~. <br /> <br />453 <br />
