<br />449 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 1987 <br /> <br />In connection with the foregoing resolution and authorization, and to comply with <br /> <br />established requirements, Council called for duly-advertised public hearings to be <br /> <br />conducted by Council on the "UDAG" application at a special meeting of Council for <br /> <br />this purpose on Tuesday, January 27, 1987, beginning at 2:00 P.M. in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, and at Council's regularly-scheduled meeting to be held Tuesday, <br /> <br />January 27, 1987, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall. <br /> <br />By letter and in person, Dr. Noel T. Boaz, Director of the Virginia Museum of <br /> <br />Natural History (in Martinsville), informed Council that this museum, as head- <br /> <br />quarters of a statewide museum system, has the potential of developing into a major <br /> <br />economic force in the Martinsville-Henry County area. In addition, Dr. Boaz noted <br /> <br />that the 1987 Session of the Virginia General Assembly will establish a joint <br /> <br />House-Senate subcommittee to assess and make recommendations for the future of the <br /> <br />Virginia Museum of Natural History and, as a parallel, Dr. Boaz proposed that City <br /> <br />Council and the Henry County Board of Supervisors establish a similar joint study <br /> <br />commission .......to assess how the Museum can develop to aid in the economic <br /> <br />development and betterment of Martinsville and Henry County." Council took no <br /> <br />action on Dr. Boaz's proposal. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of the following staff reports: <br /> <br />A. The balance status of all of the City's budgetary funds, as of November <br />30, 1986; <br /> <br />B. A proposed 1987-88 budget development schedule, with which Council <br />concurred; <br /> <br />C. A memorandum report from Clerk W. H. Yeaman informing Council that the <br />microfilming of minutes of City Council meetings, a project authorized <br />by Coun~il on March 27, 1984, has been completed, covering the period <br />beginning July 4, 1885, and ending December 31, 1984, with a copy now <br />being stored with the Division of Archives & Records of the Virginia <br />State Library in Richmond, Virginia, and a "positive" copy to be placed <br />on file at the headquarters of the Blue Ridge Regional Library for use <br />by the public; <br />
