Coil i liS <br /> <br />City Attome\' <br />hie II. 1'v1()llday <br /> <br />Clerk o/Coul/cil <br />Sus:lIl N. .lohIlS()1l <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, America Recycles Day (ARD), sponsored locally by the Virginia <br />Recycling Association (VRA) and Gateway Streetscape Foundation, is a national all- <br />volunteer, non-profit event whose goal of their annual campaign is to encourage <br />Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, since its inception in 1997, the ARD campaign has grown substantially <br />and in 2005 residents in every state of the nation participated in Amcrica Recyclcs <br />Day and pledged to recycle; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, localities are encouraged to sponsor an annual awareness event to <br />promote the social, environmental, and economic benefits of buying recycled and <br />recycling; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, nationwide, the rate of recycling is 30%, and last year's rate for Henry <br />County and Martinsville was 43.4%, which reflects a tremendous commitment from <br />our citizens to recycle; now, therefore <br /> <br />I, Kimble Reynolds, Jr., Mayor of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, do hereby call <br />upon all citizens of Martinsville to join City Council and the Virginia Recycling <br />Association in supporting the "10th Annual America Recycles Day" and do hereby <br />proclaim Wednesday, November 15, 2006, as CITY OF MARTINSVILLE <br />RECYCLES DAY. <br /> <br />.;::;-;:: - - ~ -- <br />y ~t ....:..J,;~ <br />/ tlL .,:l~,ott, ,~.
