<br />July 31, 2006 <br /> <br />A Community Meeting with City Council for the Westside area was held <br /> <br /> <br />on July 31, 2006, at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church, 41 West Fayette <br /> <br /> <br />Street, Martinsville, Virginia, beginning at 7:00 P. M., with Mayor Kimble <br /> <br /> <br />Reynolds, Jr. presiding. Council Members present included: Mayor Kimble <br /> <br /> <br />Reynolds, Jr., Vice Mayor James W. Clark and Council Members J. Ronald <br /> <br /> <br />Ferrill and Kathy C. Lawson. Council Member Mark T. Anderson was absent. <br /> <br />-" <br /> <br />Mayor Reynolds opened the meeting, welcoming all in attendance and <br /> <br />asking anyone who wished to make comments to approach the podium and <br /> <br />state their name and address. Comments were received from the following <br /> <br /> <br />individuals: <br /> <br /> <br />Jewel Jones, 808 Smith Road - overgrowth of kudzu, blind spot at end of <br /> <br /> <br />road, dilapidated houses, light pole with cement base at intersection of North <br /> <br /> <br />Beaver and Smith, telephone pole not straight. <br /> <br /> <br />Bruce Dallas, 211 Massey Street - sidewalk from Rivermont to Fayette, <br /> <br /> <br />swimming pool for community, "Children Playing" sign at intersection of Amy <br /> <br /> <br />and Armstead, increase meals on wheels, Academy Place, West Church Street <br /> <br /> <br />project, uptown open on Saturdays, need medical facility on west end. <br /> <br /> <br />Regina Hairston, 202 Amy Avenue - curb and gutter, "Children Playing" <br /> <br /> <br />sign, overgrowth on vacant lots on Armstead, barricade at end of street needs <br /> <br />repaIr. <br /> <br />Marvin Hobson, 410 Fifth Street - trees with overgrown limbs hanging <br /> <br /> <br />over church parking lot, three vacant lots in 400 block of Fifth Street with <br />
