<br />? <br /> <br />February 14, 2006 <br /> <br />A regular work session of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br /> <br />was held on February 14, 2006, in Council Chamber, Municipal Building, <br /> <br /> <br />beginning at 1:00 P. M., with Mayor Joe Cobbe presiding. Council Members <br /> <br /> <br />present included: Joseph R. Cobbe, Mayor; Kimble Reynolds, Jr., Vice Mayor; <br /> <br /> <br />and Council Members James W. Clark and J. Ronald Ferrill. Council Member <br /> <br /> <br />Terry L. Roop was absent. Mayor Cobbe opened the meeting. <br /> <br />Council considered conducting a public hearing for the purpose of <br /> <br />discussing acquisition of real property lying adjacent to the south side of Wade <br /> <br />Street, a 20-foot street space, and known as the remaining portion of the east <br /> <br /> <br />side of Lester Street, (Tax Map 23 (01)00/24) adjacent to the proposed trail <br /> <br /> <br />next to Wade Street. Wayne Knox, Director of Community Development gave a <br /> <br /> <br />short explanation and the Mayor called the Public Hearing open. Mary Rives <br /> <br /> <br />Brown of Martinsville spoke in opposition to the gift of the property by James <br /> <br /> <br />Coleman indicating that there were others who shared in the ownership. <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Cobbe declared the Public Hearing closed. Council tabled the matter <br /> <br /> <br />and requested that the City Attorney do a title search to determine who the <br /> <br />owners are and report back to Council. <br /> <br />,-- <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution calling for Virginia Tourism <br /> <br />Corporation's Official Recognition of a Southern Virginia Region. David <br /> <br />Rotenizer, Director of Tourism with the Martinsville-Henry County Economic <br /> <br />Development Corporation, gave a brief overview of the purpose of the <br />
