-,
i
~.L .3..

October 11 , 2005

October and the next regular Council meeting will be the November 8, 2005

work session at 1 :00 p.m.

City Manager Collins announced that the City, in conjunction with the

Chamber, would have an Energy Efficiency seminar on November 3,2005 from

11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Council Chambers. Matt Hankins, Communications

Manager, indicated that it would be re-run on MGTV 22 on a later date. The

re-opening of Liberty Street has been delayed somewhat due to the recent

weather. Funding to repair the Starling Avenue bridge has been received and

the City's share will be taken out of our transportation budget over a two-year

period and city staff is working with the schools to replace a drainpipe at

Patrick Henry Elementary School. Mr. Collins commended City employees for

going over their United Way goal of $16,500.00.

City Manager Collins brought up a request from the Historical Society

concerning the demolition of the Henry County Court annex (behind old

courthouse). They have received some funding for this project and would like a

waiver or reduction in the tipping fee at the landfill. Council unanimously

agreed to allow the reduction of the fee from the regular gate rate to a rate that

covers costs plus five percent (5%) administrative fee.

Mr. Collins reminded Council that in conjunction with VML Conference

in Richmond, there would be a meeting of the Virginia First Cities Coalition at

3:00 p.m. on October 23, 2005 in the Richmond Convention Center.
