i
_t. ...;

September 27, 2005

met to obtain this grant. He indicated that after further research on what is

classified as an industrial site and the competitiveness of this grant, it would

not be feasible for the city to apply at this time. Also, even if we received the

grant, a contract for demolition would probably not be awarded until March of

2006 and because of the closing of the landfill, the city's match of tipping fees

would not be available. Council Member Roop asked if part of the landfill would

remain open for construction debris. Wade Bartlett, Assistant City Manager,

advised that it would not because once the landfill is closed, it will be capped in

about two months. Council Member Roop asked if there were other avenues

available for demolition of properties such as the old YMCA and Wayne Knox

said there were and they would be pursuing those. City Attorney Monday also

indicated that the city was looking at other industrial sites for this grant, but

that there was just not enough time to work out all the details. Council tabled

consideration of the Resolution at this time.

Council next considered the need to conduct a public hearing and

consider adoption on first reading, of Ordinance to rezone 509 E. Church

Street (Tax Map 34(3)Aj 16), from R-9 Residential to P-2 Professional, and

Ordinance to amend the City's Land Use Map to indicate the northwest side of

this entire block, as Professional rather than the present designation of Low

Medium Density Residential.

Wayne Knox, Director of Community Development, reviewed the request

that has already been approved by the Planning Commission. The property

has been renovated and will be occupied by an accountant.
