,-
;" "

September 13, 2005

A regular work session of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,

was held on September 13, 2005, in Council Chamber, Municipal Building,

beginning at 1:00 P. M., with Mayor Joe Cobbe presiding. Council Members

present included: Joseph R. Cobbe, Mayor; Kimble Reynolds, Jr., Vice Mayor;

and Council Members James W. Clark, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop.

Mayor Cobbe opened the meeting.

Council received a presentation of the quarterly neighborhood focus

report for the Southside area. Vice Mayor Reynolds indicated that some of the

complaints are repeats on the same dilapidated houses. City Manager Collins

indicated that we are making progress and that additional money was included

in this year's budget for the demolition of 20 homes.

Concerning the

complaints on inoperable or abandoned vehicles, Wayne Knox, Community

Development Director, said we are having difficulty getting and keeping a

towing service to handle it for the city. He also indicated that storage is a

problem. Vice Mayor Reynolds stated that we still need to be aggressive in this

area and Council Member Roop asked if staff would look at alternate ways to

help alleviate this problem.

Council next received a review of the 2005 Martinsville Mustangs season

and staff recommendations for improvements. Matt Hankins, Communications

Manager gave a power Point presentation reviewing the major successes,

finances, challenges, remedies, fan amenity concerns and staff

----------...--.-----
