<br />April 26, 2005 <br /> <br />Council considered authorizing the City Manager to send a letter to legislators <br />requesting a budget amendment to fund a "216" study for Philpott Dam. The study will <br />review changing the power generation schedule to help improve the Smith River fishery <br />in the Martinsville-Henry County area and thus attract more trout fisherman to visit the <br />area. Vice Mayor Reynolds moved to authorize such letter; the motion was duly <br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas <br />(5) - Clark, Cobbe, Ferrill, Reynolds, Roop; Nays (0) - None. <br />Council considered rescheduling the June 14, 2005, Work Session due to use of <br />Room 200 for the primary election. By general consensus with no vote taken, Council <br />agreed to reschedule it for June 13, 2005. <br />Council considered conducting a public hearing and authorizing the Police <br />Department to apply for an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant in the <br />amount of $14,856 to purchase eight taser systems. Michael Rogers, Chief of Police, <br />stated that the City of Danville and Pittsylvania County already use these systems. <br />Mayor Cobbe declared the public hearing open; with no response, he declared it closed. <br />Council Member Roop moved to authorize such application; the motion was duly <br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas <br />(5) - Clark, Cobbe, Ferrill, Reynolds, Roop; Nays (0) - None. <br />Council received a presentation of the proposed FY06 budget by Robert R. <br />Collins, City Manager, and Scott Kizner, School Superintendent. <br />Council considered scheduling FY06 budget work sessions. By general <br />consensus with no vote taken, Council agreed to the following schedule: Tuesday, May <br />10,2005, Monday, May 16, 2005, and Monday, May 23,2005, all at 1:00 P. M. <br />
