M Martinsville

City Council
Agenda Summary

Meeting Date:
Item No:
Department:
Issue:

January 10, 2006
6.

Public Works

Presentation by the Martinsville Community Recreation
Association (MCRA)

Summary: For many years, the Martinsville Community Recreation
Association has assisted the former Martinsville Recreation Department and the
current Department of Leisure Services by providing financial and personnel
support for various community recreational activities, facilities, and programs.
The MCRA raises money primarily by operating concessions (Hooker Field and
Southside) and by holding the annual Patrick Henry National Bank youth
basketball tournament.

Mr. Harry Vam, Jr., President of the MCRA will be at Council's meeting to present
a check to the City in the amount of $7,346.28, representing the MCRA's
contribution of half the cost of two recently completed projects - replacing the
lighting on the Bronco Field at the Southside Park/Herbert O. Hughes Complex
($13,000 project cost) and installing two new basketball goals that can be easily
lowered for use by smaller children at the Martinsville Middle School gym (project
cost $1,692.57).

Attachments:

None

Recommendations: No action required
