<br />November 8, 2005 <br /> <br />Iris Read, Human Resources Manager, and Robert King of the local VFW, gave <br /> <br />brief comments. If Council decides to adopt the Resolution, Martinsville will be <br /> <br />the first City in Virginia to do so. There is no cost to the City and the <br /> <br />community, as a whole will be invited to participate. Council Member Ferrill <br /> <br />asked why the HHB, 3-320th FA, 3rd Brigade Combat team, 101st Airborne <br /> <br />Division (AASLT) had been selected as opposed to a unit in Virginia. Iris Read <br /> <br />replied that her daughter had brought the program to her attention and that <br /> <br />her son-in-law is a member of this unit and currently stationed in Iraq. <br /> <br />Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion <br /> <br />was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, all members voting: Vote: <br /> <br />5-0. Yeas: (5) - Cobbe, Reynolds, Roop, Ferrill, Clark. Nays: (0) _ None. <br /> <br />AMERICA SUPPORTING AMERlCANS ADOPTION RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, American military forces are either engaged in defending or are prepared to defend <br />and support American interests and principles; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Adopt-a-Unit program created by America Supporting Americans on March 4, <br />1968 provides a mechanism whereby all branches of the United States Armed Services can be <br />"adopted" by American communities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of this adoption program is to create a bond between American <br />communities and the military men and women who bravely serve their country; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this bond is intended to support the morale of said service men and women without <br />regard to individual political ties or affiliations; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in recognition of the challenges confronting American service men and service <br />women, it is appropriate and fitting that the City of Martinsville in the State of Virginia show its <br />support by adopting the following unit: HHB, 3-320!h FA, 3rd Brigade Combat team, 10 1 s! <br />Airborne Division (AASLT); now, therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the City of MartinsvilIe in the State of Virginia does hereby adopt and <br />offer its ongoing resfect and support, in time of war and in time of peace, to the following unit: <br />HHB, 3-320th FA, 3r Brigade Combat team, 101S! Airborne Division (AASLT); and <br />
