"".. <br />,~.: C:FiVFP <br /> <br />r ~.-' <br />C' (,. ~ <br /> <br />, 9,,'~" <br />LUII'!' <br /> <br />Martinsville - Henry <br />County <br />Historical Society <br />PO Box 432 <br />Martinsville, VA 24114 <br /> <br />October 28, 2005 <br /> <br />Mr. Dan Collins <br />City Manager <br />City of Martinsville <br />55 West Church Street <br />Martinsvile, VA 24112 <br /> <br />Re: Demolition of former Henry County Courthouse and disposal of debris <br />therefrom - land fill tipping fees <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Collins: <br /> <br />On behalf of the Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society I am writing to request <br />that City Council reconsider its recent decision not to waive City landfill tipping fees for <br />the above-referenced demolition project. <br /> <br />The Society does greatly appreciate the reduced tipping fee approved by City Council. <br />The estimated total cost of approximately $30,000 - $40,000 at the reduced rate, <br />however, will adversely impact our ability to make needed stabilizing repairs to the <br />Courthouse. Such repairs would have to be put on hold until sufficient additional funds <br />could be raised to cover their costs. Unfortunately, delays will most likely result in <br />continued deterioration which in turn could result in increased costs. <br /> <br />For the reasons stated above, the Society respectfully requests that City Council <br />reconsider waiving the landfill tipping fees for this project. We look forward to working <br />with the City in the rehabilitation of the former Courthouse to help improve the quality of <br />life and promote economic growth in our community. <br /> <br />Thank you for your consideration. <br /> <br />Very truly yours, <br /> <br />
