I <br /> I <br />I- <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Cost and Capacity of a proposed Regional Jail serving Pittsylvania, Franklin, <br /> Henry, and Patrick Counties and the Cities of Danville and Martinsville <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />Pittsylvania County initiated discussions with the Counties of Franklin, Henry, Patrick <br />and the Cities of Danville and Martinsville concerning the feasibility of forming a regional <br />jail authority/board. Each of the jurisdictions expressed an interest in the formation of a <br />regional jail however, the jurisdictions each had questions concerning the type, the <br />capacity and the cost of a regional jail. The purpose of this report is to provide <br />information concerning each of these questions. <br /> <br />This report is organized to first present a forecast and a capital cost for expanding the <br />secure detention capacity for each jurisdiction (excluding Pittsylvania County)as a "local <br />p oject (Sections II - V ), followed by a description of Virginia Regional Jails, a construct <br />for a regional jail to serve the participating jurisdictions including the size and cost of <br />such a facility. Information concerning the forecast for the Pittsylvania County secure <br />detention needs are contained in the Pittsylvania County Community-Based Corrections <br />Plan. <br /> <br />Section VII discusses the various regional jail models used in Virginia and Section VIII <br />proposes a structure of the proposed regional jail based on discussions with the Sheriff <br />or Chief of Corrections of each jurisdiction.
