6/08/04 Again reported to Council that VDH public notices would be mailed <br />within a week. Notices were combined and mailed along with the annual Customer <br />Confidence Report. <br /> <br />6/15/04 Switched coagulant fi:om Alum to Ferric Chloride, resulting in operational <br />problems not identified in preliminary jar tests. <br /> <br />7/08/04 Because of operational problems, switched back to Acidized Alum, but <br />relocated coagulant feed point upstream of lime addition based on recommendations fi:om <br />chemical manufacturers and current literature. <br /> <br />7/08/04 Instructed Dewberry to proceed with preparation of Plans & Specifications <br />to relocate chlorine feed point at WTP. <br /> <br />7/23/04 Submitted extensively redesigned P & S for Pem~anganate system to VDH <br />for approval. <br /> <br />7/29/04 Moved chlorine feed point downstream to #3 flocculator to allow <br />flocculation before chlorination. <br /> <br />8/04/04 Stopped lime addition akogether to allow flocculation at low pH before <br />chlorination. <br /> <br />8/12/04 Rec'd approval for Permanganate System fi:om VDH. <br /> <br />8/17/04 Collected samples for DBP analyses fi:om four representative locations. <br /> <br />9/07/04 Received results fi:om 8/17 samples: TTHM=53 avg. and HAA5=70 avg., <br />indicating possible improvement but still excessive HAA5 (limit=60). <br /> <br />9/08/04 Received over 5" rain; flushed reservoir; increased raw water turbidity and <br />altered characteristics; effect on DBP's ???? <br /> <br />9/09/04 Started Sodium Permanganate feed at Reservoir Pump Station to oxidize <br />organics before combining with chlorine upon reaching the Treatment Plant. <br /> <br />9/17/04 <br /> <br />Received about 2" additional rain on saturated ground; effect on DBP's ?? <br /> <br />9/23/04 On-site visit by Dr. Yuefeng Xie fi:om Penn State Univ., authority on DBP <br />formation and control. Met with VDH, consulting engineers and Henry County PSA. <br />Raw water samples were taken back to Penn State for further analysis. <br /> <br />9/29/04 Collected compliance samples two days after another 2"+ additional rain. <br /> <br />10/01/04 Dewberry submitted plans to VDH to relocate chlorine feed point. <br /> <br /> <br />
