Enclosure <br /> <br />Martinsville <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Ira R. Trollinger has served the City of Martinsville as Superintendent of Public Schools since <br />July 1996; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during his tenure, Dr. Trollinger has made dramatic improvements to the capital assets of the school <br />system by fostering the renovation of Martinsville Middle School, the creation of Albert Harris Intermediate <br />School, and the consolidation of three elementary schools into two; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, working with local, state and national leaders, Dr. Trollinger has secured national interest in <br />sustaining innovative educational programs in Martinsvitle by implementing the Intemationai Baccalaureate <br />Program and helping establish a local higher-skills academy and laboratory supported by the National Aeronautics <br />& Space Administration; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, his work has been instrumental in establishing programs geared to improve the reading, <br />computational and basic skills of students of ail learning abilities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under his tenure, Martinsville has made the transition to Standards of Learning-based accreditation of <br />schools, and has successfully reached accreditation goals in all city schools; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Trollinger's commitment has been recognized with the 2002 Regional Superintendent of the Year <br />award and the Virginia Museum of Natural History's 2000 Matthew Fontaine Maury Award for Distinguished <br />Service; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Trollinger has been a forward-thinking, progressive-minded leader who demonstrates his <br />dedication to students, teachers and parents through active involvement in curriculum development; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Ira R. Trollinger has announced that he will resign June 30, 2004 to take on new challenges and <br />responsibilities in North Carolina; now, therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, in regular session assembled June 22, 2004, that it <br />does hereby express gratitude to Ira Robert Trollinger, Ph.D., for his eight years of service to the City of <br />Martinsville, its children, its parents and schools, and does with this resolution call upon its citizens to thank Dr. <br />Trollinger for the remarkable strides forward made by the school system during his tenure. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Johnathan B.
