J. 67 <br /> <br />June 8,2004 <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Reid Young, of Knollwood Place, <br />voiced concerns regarding the City's rifle range and recommended either closing the <br />range or, at least, prohibiting high-powered weapons. Michael Rogers, Chief of Police, <br />stated that only law enforcement officers use the range now. Council requested that <br />Administration and Staff review this matter and report back to Council. Matthew <br />Hankins, Public Information Officer, announced three events: Dr. Carrier will speak on <br />the proposed new university at the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce <br />office, Thursday, June 10, 2004, 12:00 P. M.; the school merger report will be presented <br />on Thursday, June 10, 2004, 2:00 P. M., at Patrick Henry Community College; and the <br />Patriot Centre grading ribbon cutting will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, 11:00 A. <br />M. Chris Koumparakis, of Farmbrook Road, Ridgeway, offered two locations for a new <br />firing range, reported that the two wrestling students are fully funded for the North <br />Dakota competition, and offered a moment of silence for all military personnel. <br /> <br /> Tom Harned, Economic Development Director, presented an update on the <br />Liberty Street/Clearview Drive improvement project. All second bids were declined. A <br />meeting was held earlier today with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) <br />District Director. For the next bid process, the box culvert will be listed as a bid <br />alternate, and the completion date and work hours have been adjusted. No work will be <br />done until Spring 2005. The City will reinstall temporary street lighting, for which VDOT <br />will reimburse the City. <br /> <br /> John Dyches, Director of Water Resources, presented the Annual Water Quality <br />Report and a Public Information Notice regarding an update on haloacetic acids. <br /> <br /> <br />
