Mr. Bartlett presented an update regarding the future economic development structure and goals for the Coalition for Economic Progress. The coalition meets on April 1,2004. A discussion ensued related to the proposed objectives and infrastructure options. By general consensus, with no vote taken, Council agreed to the concept of the following four objectives: (1) support the development and expansion of the identified Target Business Clusters; (2) increase the assistance and resources supporting existing businesses; (3) promote entrepreneurial development and small business expansion; and (4) build new public-private partnership structure to ensure ongoing economic growth and stability in Martinsville and Henry County. Mayor Teague announced a special meeting for Thursday, April 8, 2004, 11:00 A. M-1:00 P. M., to receive a report and resumes from The Mercer Group. Council Member Ferrill moved to approve the following Consent Agenda item; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: A. Set a public hearing for April 13, 2004, on a request by the Economic Development Department to solicit public comment on a Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) through the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development.
