March 16, 2004 <br /> <br />to purchase an existing building. Some general discussion ensued, with Mr. Parker and <br />Mr. Cobbe indicating they agreed with Mr. Holladay. Mr. Teague said nothing would <br />pr~c~t the community from using the virtual progta~ and buildin~ a shell building, to <br />serve both purposes. Mr. Teague asked M'r. Barbb~ ~'0 prOVide data on how many <br />prospects visited localities with virtual buildings ver~s those with shell buildings. Mr. <br />Barber agreed to provide this information. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ferrill asked Mr. Holladay his impression of economic development <br />strategies in other communities, and whether most communities are doing a joint effort. <br />Mr. Holladay resPonded that a completely joint effort is the best way to move forward. <br />Mrs. Burnette asked whether Market Street studied the inclusion of surrounding <br />localities such aS Patrick CountY, Franklin County and Pittsylvania County in a joint <br />effort with Ma~tihSvilie-Hbnry COunty. ML 'Holladay i-~ii~d that it didn't, and it was his <br />belief that Martinsville-Henry County H~ded to SOlidify its joint o~bration before asking <br />other localities to participate. <br /> <br /> Mr. Roep asked if the recent creation of the C~oalition for EcOnomic Progress fit <br />Mr. Holladay's definition of the communities workin~ together. He responded that the <br />Coalition is a good fii'st Step, but ~tOeSh't gO far enough. He said tl~e Coalition should be <br />expanded to include all economic d~bloprfient efforts, and that one eritity was needed <br />for the City and the County. He said there needed to be a keeper of goal 1, which is <br />economic sustainability. <br /> <br />With there being no other discussion, the BOard of SuPervisors voted 5-0 on a <br />motion by Mr. VaU~fin and a S~bond by Mr. P~_rker tb Continue it~ t-hoOting to 2 p.m. at <br /> <br />the County AdminiStration Office. <br /> <br /> <br />
