Phillips <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia and Virginia Dental Association <br />collaborated to provide a no-cost Dental and Health Fair known as the Martinsville <br />Mission of Mercy on November 21-22, 2003; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the fair provided free dental, health screening and health assessment <br />services to deserving residents of Martinsville, Henry County and surrounding areas at <br />no cost to those individuals; and <br /> <br />WI-]EREAS, more than 200 dental professionals performed over 1,200 extractions, <br />completed nearly 430 surgical extractions, performed 787 root canals and filled more <br />than 450 teeth for more than 900 residents; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, over 400 more volunteers assisted in providing health services, health <br />education, fitness and diet information, blood screenings, vision services and more to <br />those in attendance at the fair; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a large coalition of local, regional and state human services organizations, <br />health care providers, government agencies and civic groups collaborated to organize, <br />stage and operate the fair; and <br /> <br />WttEREAS, in so doing, the fair did serve a valuable purpose in alleviating and <br />diminishing health and dental dangers for residents who might not otherwise have <br />been able to afford treatment; now, therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Martinsville, in regular session <br />assembled December 9, 2003 does hereby honor and esteem the Virginia Dental <br />Association, The Department of Health, and all those who volunteered their time, <br />service, energy and effort to make the 2003 Mission of Mercy Dental & Health Fair a <br />successful event to aid the health and well being of the local population. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Johnathan B.
