June 10, 2003 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on June 10, 2003, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:33 P. M., with Mayor Gene Teague presiding. Council Members present <br />included: M. Gene Teague, Mayor; Terry L. Roop, Vice Mayor; and Council Members <br />Joseph R. Cobbe, Bruce H. T. Dallas, and J. Ronald Ferrill. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation and Pledge to the American Flag, Mayor Teague <br />welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council Member Ferrill moved to approve the minutes of the April 22, 2003, and <br />May 1, 2003, meetings as presented; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br />following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, Ferrill, <br />Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Delegate Robert Hurt, Delegate Ward Armstrong, and Senator Roscoe Reynolds <br />presented Resolutions from the General Assembly as an expression of its appreciation <br />for the heroic actions taken during the January 8, 2003, house fire on Moss Street. <br />Those recognized were the Martinsville Police Department, Martinsville Fire <br />Department, Robert Smith, Brad Beam, John Kaczor, and Darryl Turner. <br /> <br /> Council recognized the following City employees receiving service awards from <br />April through June 2003: <br /> <br /> 30 years - Donna O'Dell, Finance; 25 years - Bobby Phillips, Safety; 15 <br /> years - John Russell, Fire; Ercell Cowan, Registrar; James Blankenship, <br /> Electric; Ronald Nance, Finance; 10 yeara - Jackie Dillard, Sheriff's <br /> Department; Stephen Sims, Public Works; Steven Burgess, Water <br /> Resources; 5 years - Timothy Agee, Electric <br /> <br /> Council recognized the following nominees for the 2003 Second Quarter Service <br /> Excellence Award: Roger Blankenship, Public Works; Billy Payne, Public Works; Angie <br /> <br /> <br />
