<br />~ 24-1 MARTINSVILLE CODE <br /> <br />(3) Campus police officers appointed pursuant to chapter 17 of title 23 (~ 23-232 et seq.), <br />of the Code of Virginia. <br /> <br />(4) Conservators ofthe peace, except that the following conservators of the peace shall not <br />be permitted to carry a concealed weapon without obtaining a permit pursuant to state <br />law: Notaries public; registrars; drivers, operators or other persons in charge of any <br />motor vehicle carrier of passengers for hire; and commissioners in chancery. <br /> <br />(5) Noncustodian employees of the state department of corrections designated to carry <br />weapons by the secretary of public safety or the director of the department of <br />corrections pursuant to section 53-39 of the Code of Virginia. <br /> <br />(e) As a condition for issuance of a concealed handgun permit that the applicant shall <br />submit to finger printing and provide personal descriptive information to be forwarded with <br />the fingerprints through the Central Criminal Records Exchange to the Federal Bureau of <br />Investigation for the purpose of obtaining criminal history record information from federal <br />records pursuant to criminal investigation by state and local law-enforcement agencies. <br />(Code 1971, ~ 11-44; Ord. Discharging firearms-Generally. <br /> <br />(a) No person shall fire or discharge any gun, cannon, pistol or other firearm at any place <br />within the city. Same-At target ranges. <br /> <br />(a) Firearms may be fired or discharged at a target range within the city, which range has <br />been approved and authorized as provided for in this section. <br /> <br />(b) Authorization and approval of a target range shall be in writing and signed by both the <br />commonwealth's attorney and the chief of police.
