Enclosure <br /> <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia <br /> <br />Ordinance No. 2003-10 <br />(City Code Section 24-6) <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in Regular <br />Session held on June 24, 2003, that Section 24-6 of the Code of the City of Martinsville, <br />currently reserved, be, and hereby is, amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 24-6. Archery Season for Deer. <br /> Notwithstanding the provisions of any other ordinance in the Code of the City of <br /> Martinsville, it shall be legal for persons to discharge an arrow from a compound, <br /> recurve or cross bow, for the purpose of taking deer, within the City of Martinsville, <br /> during the designated days and times of the Special Urban Archery Season, the Early <br /> Archery Season, and the Late Archery Season, all as defined by the Virginia <br /> Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Any such discharge shall be subject to the <br /> regulations established by said Department and subject also to the following: <br /> <br /> 1. All persons seeking to hunt deer pursuant to this section shall obtain a <br /> permit from the City Police Department. The fee for the permit shall be <br /> $25.00, which shall be payable to the City Treasurer. The Police <br /> Department is empowered to adopt such regulations additional to this <br /> section as it deems necessary for the administrations and granting of the <br /> permits. The Police Department is further empowered to revoke any such <br /> permit upon discovery of a violation of this section or of its own <br /> regulations. <br /> <br /> 2. All applicants for such hunting permits shall have held a valid Virginia <br /> hunting license and big game license and shall provide evidence of <br /> attendance at the eight-hour hunter safety course conducted by the <br /> National Bowhunting Educational Foundation, All applicants shall obtain <br /> written permission, evidenced by a form approved by the Police <br /> Department, from the owner of property on which he or she wishes to <br /> hunt. All permits and any such permission obtained from a landowner <br /> shall include a clause wherein both hunter and landowner agree to <br /> indemnify the City from all claims or other }itigation arising from hunting <br /> · pursuant to this section. <br /> <br /> 3. Upon issuance'of the permit, the hunter shall also be issued a placard <br /> identifying their vehicle as that of a hunter; this placard shall not exempt <br /> the hunter from Virginia or City parking and traffic laws and ordinances. <br /> At all times while hunting pursuing to this section, hunters shall display <br /> the placard on their vehicle and shall have on their person the permit, the <br /> <br /> <br />
