Consider approval, on first reading, of Ordinance No. 2003-8 amending <br /> Chapter 21--Taxation to add Article IX--Cigarette Tax. <br /> <br />COMMENTS: The draft of this Ordinance will be furnished to you on <br />Monday, June 9th, prior to the meeting. <br /> <br />IX. Consider approval, on first reading, of Ordinance No. 2003-9 amending <br /> Chapter 21--Taxation to add Article X--Transient Lodging Tax. <br /> <br />COMMENTS: The draft of this Ordinance will be furnished to you on <br />Monday, June 9th, prior to the meeting. <br /> <br />Conduct a public hearing for the purpose of receiving/interviewing <br />citizens interested in appointment to two positions on the City's School <br />Board. (See Enclosure #7) <br /> <br />COMMENTS: As Council is aware, the current members--Cynthia W. <br />Ingram and Joseph E. Finley terms end June 30, 2003. Mrs. Ingram and <br />Mr. Finley are eligible for reappointment and have expressed their <br />interest in reappointment. Additionally, we have received Information <br />Forms/Resumes from Charles Davies, 1234 Mulberry Road. Should <br />Council desire, it can convene in Closed Session, under Subsection 1 of <br />the FOI Act, for the purpose of interviewing the applicants. According to <br />8tare Law, only those citizens interviewed by Council or whose name was <br />brought up during the Public Hearing can be considered for appoint- <br />ment, and appointments cannot be made until seven days after the <br />Public Hearing, thus this item will be on CounciYs Special June 20th <br />Agenda. <br /> <br />XI. Business from the Floor <br /> <br />This section of the Council meeting provides citizens the <br />opportunity to discuss matters, which are not listed on the printed <br />agenda. In that the Council meetings are broadcast on Martinsville <br />Government Television~ the City Council is responsible for the <br />content of the programming. Thus, any person wishing to bring a <br />matter to Council's attention under this Section of the agenda <br />should: (1} come to the podium and state their name and address; <br />(2) state the matter that they wish to discuss and what action they <br />would like for Council to take; (3) limit their remarks to five <br />minutes; and (4) refrain from making any personal references or <br />accusations of a factually false and/or malicious nature. <br /> <br /> <br />
