Reynolds, Jr. - City Manager <br /> <br />Iris Read - Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Revisions to Section 125 - Cafeteria Plan <br /> <br />On January 1, 1988, the City implemented a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan that allowed employees to pay <br />their portion of health care premiums with pre-tax dollars, thereby reducing their taxable income. <br />Subsequent amendments permitted employees to pay dental, vision, and flexible spending account <br />premiums accordingly. <br /> <br />Effective July 1, 2003, the employee benefits package will be expanded to include cancer and intensive <br />care voluntary benefits. So that employees may elect to pay these premiums on the same pre-tax basis, <br />the City's Section 125 Cafeteria Plan Document must be amended. Additionally, a separate <br />Amendment is being submitted which reflects the City's intent to comply with the Standards for Privacy <br />issued pursuant to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). <br /> <br />The revised Section t25 Plan is attached for your review and submission to Council for their approval. <br />I would be pleased to answer any questions that you or City Council may have regarding this request. <br /> <br />Iris Read <br />Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> <br />55 West Church Street P.O.
