May 13, 2003 <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />MARTINSVILLE, VIRGINIA, in regular session assembled April 22, <br />2003, that the City of Martinsville Zoning Ordinance, Sections I to <br />VII and XVI to XXIV, be amended, revised, and reordained to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />Sections I to VII and XVI to XXIV, ordinance text as given herein <br /> <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions <br />of this ordinance be and the same are hereby repealed. <br />[Attachment A] <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution upon a request by the West <br /> <br />Piedmont Planning District Commission to continue support to the West Piedmont <br /> <br />Regional Alliance. Vice Mayor Roop moved to adopt the following Resolution; the <br /> <br />motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: <br /> <br />Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Regional Competitiveness Act, Section 15.1- <br />1227.1 through Section 15.1-1227.5 of the Code of Virginia, as <br />amended, permits counties, cities, and towns within a planning <br />district to establish a regional partnership for the purpose of <br />encouraging local governments to exercise the options provided by <br />law to work together for their mutual benefit and the benefit of the <br />Commonwealth; and <br />WHEREAS, the West Piedmont Planning District, at the request of <br />the Planning District's Regional Manager's Group, amended its <br />bylaws to create a committee of the Commission thereby creating <br />an organization known as the West Piedmont Regional Alliance <br />and which may also be identified as the Regional Alliance; and <br />WHEREAS, the West Piedmont Regional Alliance became a <br />qualified Regional Competitiveness Program partnership for a five- <br />year period beginning in 1997; and <br />WHEREAS, the Region now desires to requalify for continued <br />participation in the Regional Competitiveness Program; and <br />WHEREAS, the West Piedmont Planning District Commission has <br />extended an invitation for the City of Martinsville to continue to be a <br />fully participating member in the Regional Alliance; now, therefore, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville agreed at its meeting on May 13, 2003 to: <br />A. Continue support to the West Piedmont Regional Alliance under <br />the provisions of the 1996 Regional Cooperation Act in <br />conjunction with the other participating member local <br /> <br /> <br />
