November 6, 2002 <br /> <br /> A work session meeting to receive the recommendations of the Deer Population <br />Management Task Force was held on November 6, 2002, in Council Chamber of the <br />Municipal Building, beginning at 11:13 A. M., with Mayor Gene Teague presiding. <br />Council Members present included: M. Gene Teague, Mayor; Terry L. Roop, Vice <br />Mayor; and Council Members Joseph R. Cobbe and J. Ronald Ferrill. Council Member <br />Bruce H. T. Dallas was absent. <br /> <br /> Mayor Teague thanked the members of the Deer Population Management Task <br />Force for theirs-work and recognized those in attendance, Chairman Ira TroIlinger, Lynn <br />Wehlau, and Lester Finney. Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, presented an <br /> <br />overview regarding the creation of the Task Force. Dr. Trollinger reviewed the meeting <br />schedule, membership, and various statistics. He presented the Task Force's <br /> <br />recommendations, which included (1) adoption of a resolution in support of Henry <br />County's request to lengthen the hunting season; (2) amendment to City Code to allow <br />for a special de-pop permit whereby the gaming commission' allows the Police <br />Department to have specialized bow hunters to h~'r~bs'~ d'~e'~'durin~ a givenpeno~l' ~ ~of <br />time; (3) amendment to City Code to allow for a deer hunting season within the City <br />limits on approved property by the Police Department for bow hunters only, using the <br />Urban Archery Season and other seasons specified for hunting deer with bows; (4) <br />implementation of a system to include the number of deer hit and the number of deer <br />killed within the City limits; and (5) distribution of pertinent information in its City <br />newsletter, over its website, and on its cable access channel about co-existing with <br />deer.
