Vice Mayor Roop moved to rezone Lot 8 of Maple Street from M-2 Industrial to <br />R-6 Residential on first reading; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br />following roll call vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, <br />Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Klm Adkins, President of the <br />Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, announced that a luncheon with <br />Governor Mark Warner would be held on Friday, September 13, 2002, at the Stratford <br />Inn Convention Center in Danville to discuss the education bond referendum. Chris <br />Koumparakis, of Eden, North Carolina, and former resident, spoke on the City <br />educational system. John Sanders, of 308 Starling Avenue, spoke regarding economic <br />development and the local government access channel. <br /> <br /> Council considered":Staff Reports. City Manager Reynolds presented the <br />Recycling Report for the three-month period of May through July, 2002, and an update <br />on raw water status in the City. On August 30, 2002, Governor Warner issued <br />mandatory water use restrictions, which supersede the City's voluntary request. <br /> <br /> Vi~e Mayor Roop encouraged citizens to recognize last year's attacks on the <br />United States in some way tomorrow.
